Tricia Wright was left kicking herself as the PDC Unicorn Women’s World Championships slipped out of her hands at Winter Gardens, Blackpool, last weekend.
At 5-3 up, the 51-year-old England international from Mitcham was just a leg away from being crowned inaugural PDC women’s world champion.
But American Stacy Bromberg fought back in dramatic fashion snatch the £10,000 first prize.
In a deciding 11th leg, Bromberg capitalised on Wright’s missed finishes at double top, 10 and five.
Wright began hitting 100 but that was soon forgotten as the American edged further ahead and completed victory with a perfect 92 checkout.
“Obviously it is a blow,” said Wright, who reached the final after coming through the qualifying event in Barnsley seven weeks ago.
“I had my chances and didn’t take them so well done to Stacy.
“I really enjoyed the whole experience and I will keep trying to win the world title.”
Wright, who works in finance, still wins £5,000, a PDC pro tour card for the next two years and a place in the ITV-televised Grand Slam of Darts.
