Walton and Hersham Pubwatch pulls in its first punters

The first Walton and Hersham Pubwatch meeting has taken place.

They discussed two incidents - one where a punter got rowdy and punched a member of staff in the face, and another where a man smashed a glass when asked to leave a premises.

The Pubwatch group approved an immediate ban for both men and their photographs will be sent to members.

Representatives from the town’s licensed premises, Surrey Police, Walton Business Group, Elmbridge Council and the Community Safety Partnership all attended the meeting.

They discussed a letter from a man who had been subject of a ban for the past 10 years. He asked for the ban to be lifted because, since it was issued, he had become a family man and now ran a successful business. Members decided to lift the ban.

Peter Kipps, Elmbridge Community Safety Partnership manager, said: “Pubwatch schemes are run by licensed premises for licensed premises and play an important part in ensuring well run premises.”

The next Walton and Hersham Pubwatch meeting is on Tuesday, March 6.

Any licensed premises that are not yet members and would like to attend can call 01372 474399.
